SOLUTIONS
The asset, the agreement, and the rights ledger as one object. Settlement follows from atomic execution, not from a downstream process.

An Intelligent Instrument is the asset, the agreement, and the rights ledger as a single object.
A token wraps an off-ledger asset.
A token represents ownership only.
Compliance, authority, and lifecycle live in external systems.
An Intelligent Instrument is the asset's rights graph.
Ownership, possession, use, and destruction are independently governable.
Compliance, authority, and lifecycle are properties of the instrument.
Settlement, reconciliation, and audit stop being downstream processes; they are queries against the post-transaction rights state.

Use Case · Sovereign Assets
The custody record is the instrument.
A sovereign issuer replaces a chain of registries and custodian agreements with a single Intelligent Instrument whose state is the record of position.
THE CHALLENGE
Sovereign authorities hold physical assets across distributed custody locations, with the record of what is held, where, by whom, and under what authority living in disconnected registries reconciled after the fact. Every transfer, pledge, or release is a sequence of updates in separate systems, and every divergence between the asset and its governance is discovered later.
THE CONDUIT APPROACH
The sovereign asset is issued as an Intelligent Instrument: a rights graph where custody, ownership, transfer authority, jurisdictional compliance, and provenance are nodes governed by agreement state machines and gated by authority proofs. Every change of status executes Authority, Agreements, and Rights Accounting atomically as one operation, so the instrument's state, the rights graph, and every authorized party's view update together.
No registry to reconcile.
Custody location, ownership chain, transfer history, and compliance status are structural properties of the Intelligent Instrument; there is no separate record that can drift out of sync.
No retroactive authority checks.
Every custody transfer or rights assignment requires a validated authority proof chain before it executes; unauthorized transfers are rejected at the protocol layer, not flagged retroactively.
No downstream settlement.
When custody changes, the rights update, the accounting view, and the provenance record commit as one atomic operation; the cash leg, the rights leg, and the accounting view are the same event.
No audit reconstruction.
Every custody change, every status transition, every authority grant is queryable from the rights graph; regulatory audit reduces to a query, not reconstruction across disconnected systems.
See it in practice.
